thought I would but a little time on the engine today
I have both rotary covers on and placed my oil pump blank plate on
picked up two srews to put on the points cover .... and one broke!
placed the base gaskets on but they don't seam to fit

the tank

sent my tank out to Moyer Fuel Tank Renu
they baked it cut it open and sand blasted and coated the tank (see weld)
price was higher than expected but work was top notch
the shots do not do the tank justice After putting a tank pad on I think the bike will be flat black

yes that is a complete fork and there are two of the four tanks in the photo

shift drum went in well, -whimped out and put selector in
NOS Crank will stay boxed up and a rebuilt goes in-
trans gear mesh together purrr -fectly

weekend update

got my mitts on a set of real stone handlebars (thanks Doug it was worth the drive to see you) to complete my Red 175DT, too bad they are from a Hurricane.
finished up the honey do list
cub scouts is done for the summer
Still need to finish the face frame on the built in Book Cases
and caps on the column
Time to hit the wrenches
Probably does not help that I have Bronchitis right now

Engine cleaned to my high Umm Standards

Okay the weather has been better,
test fitted the engine and transmission clusters
took away the 4-5 speed selector, making the bike a 5 speed
and ran the cases in the dish washer to remove the last bit of Soda Media and this is the result
I rubbed everything down with neva-dull (good Boston accent on that one)
Need to make a small part order list and should have it together next week
btw the cases look great but I have removed a lot of the paint on the outer cover and that is why it looks blotchy under the Never-dull

Selector drum set up question

I do not plan on using the 4 speed option and was looking to replace the sport shift shaft (part # 2571-8001) with a bolt
Just to confirm two things;
1- flat side of the washer (part# 2548-8000) faces the gear cluster, my sping holder has a flat side tried to show it in the second photo
2- the flat on the sport shift shaft engaged is for 4 speed option and if i were to use a bolt I would have a locked in 5 speed as shown in the photos I should be in 5 speed mode???
if all works well I will pick up a set of cotter pins 0551-2525 for the shift fork to retain the fork guide and a bolt to replace the sport shift shaft
